Revolutionising Patient Care and Financial Health: A Case Study from Kingston

Introduction

Background/Challenge

The practice faced challenges with gaps in Local Enhanced Service (LES) reporting. The practice didn’t have the capacity to spend the time required to deal with the complexity of the task. This left high-risk patients unidentified and substantial revenues unclaimed.

Solution

Primary Care IT undertook a meticulous initial scoping by reviewing LES contracts and existing reporting methodologies. Collaborative discussions with our customers ensured alignment with their specific needs, leading to the development of: 

  • protocols to support correct data entry 
  • alerts to provide information  
  • searches to aid operational management and reporting 
  • detailed support articles for each of the resources 
  • detailed support articles for each of the LES schemes 

These resources are crucial for both patient care standards and financial health. 

Outcome

The PCIT resources provided allowed the practice to: 

  • identify high risk diabetic patients who they were then able to offer appropriate care to. 
  • claim £4000 of income due to under reporting 
  • identify patients who were incorrectly or not coded for care they had received leading to increased income of over £8000.
