Coding Update

We have previously reported on changes to the Learning Disabilities register. NHS England had added a number of new qualifying codes that would include patients on the LD register, but subsequently withdrew 28 codes. The codes were removed by TPP SystmOne in early January and by EMIS Web in MKB206 later in the month, so many Practices should now expect their LD register to be similar to how it was in October 2023.

We are aware that some Practices are still finding patients on the register who they do not think should be included. A Read code term of Dysequilibrium – often added years ago – appears to be the code adding the patient to the register. This code term may have been used to describe somebody who was experiencing acute dizziness or loss of balance. This code was subsequently made a synonym of the condition Dysequilibrium syndrome which is a neurological condition associated with an intellectual disability.

The implication of including these patients increases the prevalence of the QOF register, but also makes the IIF indicator HI-03 harder to achieve, particularly as it would be inappropriate to add the code Learning disabilities health action plan declined.

Assuming NHS England does not have plans to remove the code, Practices may be forced to consider replacing the code in old consultation entries to ensure the patient is not included on the Learning Disabilities register.

Personalised Patient Record in SystmOne

You can upload a personalised photo into a patients record that you can then save to the patient’s demographic information. Just right click on record attachments in the clinical tab. Select the drive that you are importing the picture from. Once the picture has been saved to the record you can then set this picture as the patient’s demographic picture by selecting the camera icon in the top left hand corner of the screen.
