#58 PCIT Gems: AccuRx blood pressures l QOF VI003

AccurX blood pressures

We previously advised customers about issues with AccuRx blood pressures. You may have recently seen communications from both EMIS and AccuRx with an update; EMIS has just released some searches to identify affected patients – just as Primary Care IT did in November – but EMIS is also preparing to run a script that will change the affected patients from the original codes to the revised “Self reported…” codes in order to be recognised for QOF. They intend to do this before the end ot the contract year.

In case EMIS does not manage to complete this script, we strongly recommend assessing the impact to your Practice by using either the PCIT searches (found in folder 004B / h Code reviews) or EMIS’ version found in the EMIS Library:

A message for EMIS Practices in particular

We recently had a Practice suggest that the codes offered on our Childhood Vaccination page were wrong as their achievement for VI003 was down. The codes were valid for QOF, but a deeper investigation identified a significant number of patients were fully vaccinated but not being recognised for QOF VI003. The reason for this was that their previous clinical system recorded compound vaccinations such as MMR as 3 separate vaccinations. A human eye can process the information and understand that an MMR dose was given but EMIS cannot safely make the same observation, and instead treats it as 3 separate injections (Measles then Mumps then Rubella).

We advised the Practice to re-code all of their affected patients using a combined MMR code and their achievement nearly doubled.

If your QOF VI achievement is down, especially for VI003, and you were previously on Vision or SystmOne, use our Missed Activity searches for QOF VI (folder 004C) or submit a support ticket for advice. All EMIS Practices should be aware that vaccination data for newly registered patients coming via GP2GP from a SystmOne site may be degraded so this should also be re-coded at the earliest opportunity.

We have recently refreshed some childhood vaccination catch up searches for MMR in (folder 015), taking on feedback from customers to improve the reporting layout and introducing an uptake report.
